May 22nd, birthday gratitude entry:
SuperHeroes do in fact walk among us. I know this to be true. I’ve met five of them.
And here’s our story:
Over the years, my children invited others into our fold. There were many, many souls who wondered in, imbibed of our laughter, ate (all) the food in the pantry, showered like they owned the towels, and slept on couches, floors, and the occasional bed. It was like Heaven to me. I always imagined a world where children by the bucketfuls would feel comfortable calling our space their second home; where they would know they could unpack worries and hopes, feel heard and cared for, and given direction, hugs, sometimes a kick in the ars, but mostly a reminder of their power, holiness, and mission.
These five were among those who found their way to our home. They stayed, finding also their way into our hearts.
It’s been quite heavenly.
Garrett: SuperHero of intelligence (he’s going to invent something that’ll knock us all into the next century and we’re gonna be like “wow, that kid is freakin’ amazing!” and I’m gonna say, “yep, saw that coming a mile away”) – also high in sensitivity, but don’t tell him I told you that…. THAT may be his biggest superpower, so let’s keep that on the DL, eh?
Bryce: SuperHero of wisdom (for one so young, he ponders, supposes, airs his concerns and hopes and dreams for others… never have I met a kid who wants others to reach their potential like B does… and love for his parents? beyond compare) – also high in tenacity… he will advise you what to do and then drag-pull you along to get there
Patrick: SuperHero of strength (he has seen the lowest of the lows and the highest of the highs… and remains standing through it all… you want this kid in your corner, on your side) – also high in work ethic… he will do what needs to be done, period
Derek: SuperHero of respect (the odds are strong that he’s an old soul… for his honor of his own parents, family, and all those around him is mighty and real) – also high in tenderness… and possesses an unusual value for maintaining beneficial traditions such as the family business, working the land… fo sho, an old soul
James: SuperHero of diplomacy (listening to all sides, creating space for all opinions, letting the air move in a tight situation… it’s actually quite a gift and he’s got it) – also high in a genuine love for the earth, all things nature… he reminds me of a tree, tall and deeply-rooted, able to withstand storms but also providing us with necessary life-giving O2… it’s like he’s magic, I swear to God
So, when I hear the word on the street that the world is crapping out, and that this next generation blah-blah-blah… I toss my “talk to the hand” because I know differently. I know five souls who were sent here on a mission. They are lifting the vibe of our world. How do I know? Because in just the short time I was blessed to feed, listen, and vacuum around them, they added big time high-vibe to MY world.
These five are SuperHeroes, I tell you.
And oooooh, the laughs we’ve shared.
I remember the time when my husband was cleaning up after a grad party. It was super dark out and, figuring no one was around, he let a big one go… only to hear, “Good one, Mr. Glasier.” (That was our Bryce.) This phrase remains our go-to response to anyone ripping one out… can you even?!
Don’t get me started on the booze we found in someone’s backpack… which we replaced with soda… thaaaaat went over like a fart in church (lotsa boys, lotsa poop-fart stories)… later, we gifted the kid with that saved-for-three-years hooch for his 21st. True story.
Visit someone in jail? Check.
Hold the bucket for someone to puke? Check.
Help with a fine for smoking pot? Check… oh no, hold on… that was one of my kids…
Find cigarettes, condoms, and — aw sheez, one of mine again…
And don’t even get me started on “Miracle Moist.” (James!)
All this to say… life has been FULL and FUN with these five souls added to our Tribe. I cannot imagine my life without them. Totally excited about their futures, we’re already looking forward to attending a wedding (D!!!) and numerous graduations from college… my goodness, we will be witnessing babies being brought into our fold, businesses being birthed, ideas being realized… a world where Love One Another comes into manifestation.
I’m believing it… and it’s actually not that hard… because, you see, I’ve met these guys. I’ve been in their space, listened to their hearts beating, and WE ARE IN GOOD LOVING HANDS, O Sacred Ones.
Here’s their song… Imagine. These five, oh yes these five will “lead us there”… Love. One. Another.
Garrett, Bryce, Patrick, Derek, and James… I love you guys like you’re my own sons. Thanks a million times for allowing me to be your “Mama G”, “Lisa G”, and “Mrs. G”… and to witness your becoming.
You. Complete. Me.
Much love & hope,
