This red cardinal.
Husband named him Dave.
Dave visited him every day for months. Met him on the side mirror for second breakfast and returned for lunch.
Husband is the most grounded, logical, analytical, there’s-always-an-explanation kinda soul I’ve ever met. Dave pushed him right outta his comfort zone. And then some.
Him: “What the heck?”
Me: “Breathe. Sounds like you got a friend. Let it be that. Is it so weird that a bird would find your quiet company enjoyable?”
Him: “Yes, it doesn’t make sense.”
Me: “Maybe not everything has to make sense. Maybe this is just to be experienced, not analyzed.”
Him: “You’re better at that than I am.”
Me: “Well, perhaps just more practiced.”
Husband sold the house where Dave was showing up… but by closing day, Husband looked forward to Dave’s daily visits. Bought him a couple of bird houses, complete with perch and plenty of seeds. (I think Husband is better at this than he realizes.)
He misses Dave, his snack n lunch buddy. And I can’t say for sure but I bet Dave misses him too.
There are only two ways to live your life. One is as if nothing is a miracle. The other is as if everything is a miracle.
